National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity Series Spring 2020
All faculty and administrators are invited to a series of equity-minded teaching workshops led by the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE). As part of the series, ECC will host two in-person workshops and will be joined by faculty participants from nearby community colleges. The three webinars will be livestreamed for faculty to attend in designated campus locations and can also be accessed remotely at any time. All course materials will be provided to ECC participants free of cost, and participants will receive CETL lane credit.

“Micromessaging to Reach and Teach Every Student” is a research-based, educator professional development program to address gender-and culturally based implicit biases that occur in the classroom and that are manifested in “micromessages.” This program provides participants with an awareness of the power of micromessages, which include looks, gestures, tone of voice, or the framing feedback that subtly yet powerfully shape our culture, our classrooms, and the individuals within them.

This webinar will introduce educators to the principles of Universal Design for Learning and how to adapt them to classroom and curriculum to thoughtfully support all learners.

Research shows that when teaching is responsive to diverse cultural norms of behavior and communication in the classroom, students have increased interest, motivation, persistence, and achievement. Responsive teaching is when educators relate content and instructional strategies to the cultural backgrounds of their students. Through a process of examination, reflection, and action, this webinar is intended to help educators develop mindsets to meet the needs of their students, and to implement curriculum that utilizes students’ cultural perspectives and home or community knowledge.

The aim of this webinar is to help educators understand what self-efficacy is and the powerful impact it can have on a student’s behavior within an academic setting. This webinar will also forge connections between self-efficacy and educational equity, outlining how marginalized students can benefit from an increased self-efficacy.

“Ensuring Equity in Problem-Based Learning” assists educators to transform their Problem- or Project-Based Learning (PBL) practices to ensure every student can be successful. To effectively engage each student, we provide an original framework and reflection tool to embed equity in PBL. We address key components of PBL, describe how an equitable PBL approach can positively affect marginalized groups, and provide strategies for educators to make PBL practices more equitable.
NAPE EQUITY COACH TRAINING 2020-2021
Over Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, NAPE will lead three in-person sessions, hosted at ECC, on Equipping Campus Educational Equity Coaches. In order to attend the Equity Coach training, participants need to have completed all five Spring 2020 sessions. The 20-21 Equity Coach training will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants across schools.
