Student Voice Inventory
Purpose
The Student Voice Inventory is an initiative designed to help faculty understand the dynamics of student participation in their classes. During a class session, a neutral observer will catalog each interaction between students and the instructor, focusing on who contributes, how often, and the depth of their engagement. Through collaboration with Institutional Research, the information gathered will be disaggregated so that representation of different student groups can be analyzed. This inventory provides insight into patterns of engagement, allowing faculty to reflect on the inclusiveness of their teaching environment. For example, you might find that the front of the room is more likely to participate than the back of the room or you are asking full-time students more follow-up questions.
By analyzing their classroom interactions, faculty can make informed adjustments to foster a more inclusive and balanced environment where all voices are heard. This initiative aligns with the college's commitment to equity and enhances the students’ overall educational experience.
